Rocking Horse Manure. That is how rare these reclining seat bases are for all Jaguar Mark 2, 240 and 340 cars with 8-pleat seats, meaning 1963 and newer. If you have one of these wonderful old Jags (we have a '63 3.8 ourselves, so we know how great they are!), your seat backs and bottom cushions will fit neatly onto these bases, and Presto! Your seats will recline. Just the perfect thing if you have a bad back like I do, as you can adjust the angle of the backrest so it's comfortable. One the 8-pleat seats, the backrests are held to the bottom frames by four pins, so changing them onto reclining seat bases is straightforward.
The last two pics show a detail of how the seat backrest fits into this type of frame, and the last pic is of an 8-pleat backrest, showing the two legs at the bottom, which are held by pins to the reclining seat base. The upper pin is the pivot, while the lower pin pushes against the spring-loaded reclining mechanism, allowing the seat to recline. THE GREEN SEAT BACKREST IN THE PICTURE IS NOT FOR SALE AND IS NOT INCLUDED IN THIS AUCTION!
This pair has been refurbished, dismantled, cleaned, painted and lubricated. The chrome reclining handles have been polished and are in beautiful condition, and the rare teardrop knobs have also been refurbished and are like new. These bases are ready to install in your Mark 2.
IF YOU HAVE AN EARLIER CAR WITH 7-PLEAT SEATS, all is not lost! We have two sets of complete 7-pleat seats for sale. We even have some really nice original red leather cushions available (but only one backrest, sadly). Please contact us for details.
