This is a super rare pair of original yellow Lucas SLR700S driving, or spot, lamps. They were made in England in the early 1960s. Fitted by British car manufacturers like Jaguar, Aston Martin and Bentley, the were also used by factory rallying teams, as there were no finer driving lamps available in the 1950s, from any manufacturer. This pair is in excellent original condition, with nice chrome, good reflectors, no dents and excellent glass. One of the lens units has been restored with a resilvered reflector, while the other is in excellent original condition.
The SLR700S was made of heavy brass with thick glass, a superbly-built lamp that was made to last, as well as to cast a powerful beam. They were justifiably known as "Flamethrowers" in their day. This pair have yellow glass, an extremely rare feature on Lucas lamps. Some European countries required yellow lighting on cars, but some owners purchased yellow lamps such as these for their looks. We can't argue with that! While any SLR700S lamp is beautiful, the yellow lenses really stand out and their rarity means that nobody else at ther show will have anything like them.
