This gorgeous pair of lamps are a very rare set of early Lucas FT8 Square 8 fog lamps. These are the fog lights used on Shelby Mustangs and California Special Mustangs, correct in every detail. The Square 8 lamp underwent a number of changes over the many years it was manufactured by Lucas, but only the first two or three years of production can be considered 100 percent concours-correct for Shelbys and California Specials. The important details are a small black grommet where the wire exits the housing and the ENGLAND inscription on the glass lens. There are other minor details but these are the important ones which affect judging on the national scale.
These lamps are in astoundingly original condition, with a very deep shine to the chrome, perfect lenses and reflectors, wiring, even the plastic covers (not used on Shelby Mustangs, by the way, but a great idea to cover these lovely lamps if the car is being driven!). They come with original length of wire, a toggle switch, connectors, even an instructional leaflet. The outer boxes are tatty but they have done an excellent job of protecting the lamps within. There is also an inner corrugated cardboard insert and the great display boxes, as shown in the pictures. You will NOT FIND ANOTHER SET AS GOOD AND CORRECT AS THESE!
They are NOT TO BE COMPARED with any new Lucas Square 8 lamps manufactured today. The bodies are chrome-plated brass, whereas all new Lucas fog and driving lamps have steel bodies. The lenses have all the correct Lucas lettering, while new ones do not, and the bodies are properly stamped LUCAS FT/LR8 MADE IN ENGLAND, but again, new lamps do not have these features. There are other differences, but we don't want to go on and on. These lamps are original, and correct.
