Here is a very rare Lucas Sports Coil from the 1940s or 1950s. These units
were sold as a performance upgrade, producing a hotter spark than a
normal ignition coil. These older style Sports Coils rarely turn up, and
almost never in a condition as nice as this one. It has been cleaned
and repainted in the original hammered gold color scheme, and we have
tested it and found that it produces sparks when called upon to do so.
The brass tag is really cool, although it was installed crookedly at the
factory!
There is no date stamp on these early Sports Coils, but we believe it was made in the late 1940s or early 1950s.It would make a superb addition to a Jaguar XK120, SS100, Alvis, Bentley, Aston Martin, Bristol, or other sporting British car.
We also have a few standard Lucas B12 coils from the same period,
including one or two NOS coils. We will be listing these eventually, but
please contact us if you are interested.
These coils have not been manufactured for over sixty years and have become very hard to find. Reproductions of this type are not available from any source we know of.
We have several in stock with various date stamps, from 1949 through 1955.
