Here is an incredible find. It is a new old stock original Lucas 585 interior mirror, the ultra-rare dash-mounted day/night dipping mirror produced in the 1950s and used by rally drivers and others who wanted the advantages of a mirror that dips to eliminate glare from bright headlamps of following cars. These were fitted to Jaguar C-types, Austin-Healey 100S, Aston Martin, Jaguar Mark IX, Bentley and Rolls-Royce and other high-performance and luxury cars of the 1950s. This type of mirror was also popular as an aftermarket accessory and was frequently fitted as an upgrade to British sports cars, in a day when day-night mirrors were not a standard feature on new cars.
This is a NOS mirror in the original Lucas box, in lovely, mint condition. The box has a date of 11/60. This particular mirror has a dark grey painted stem, but we can supply a chrome stem if the buyer prefers. |
