Description

This 1962 Raleigh is a real gem. These bicycles were built to last a

lifetime, and this one has indeed lasted well. It is a Deluxe Sports,

made in 1961-63 only, and distinguished from the more normal Raleigh

Sports of that time period in having Raleigh patent drop-center rims

(Very hard to damage one of these!), leather Brooks B72 saddle, Dynohub

hub generator and chrome head and tail lamp. The lamps work! It is

equipped with the legendary Sturmey-Archer AW three-speed hub,

world-renowned for its durability. The bike comes with a frame pump and a

really wonderful old British saddlebag. It retains its original grips

and pedals and most of its original Raleigh black enamel paint, which

shines well. There are scratches here and there and some patina on the

chrome parts but this bike looks really excellent and is a totally

honest, original, built-to-last classic English 3-speed.

The seat tube is 21 inches from top lug to the center of the crank axle,

but don't be fooled by that measurement; this bicycle is completely

comfortable for an adult male, unless you are much over 6 feet tall. I

am 5 feet 8 inches and ride three-speed cycles with 21 inch frames

comfortably. You won't be competing in the Tour de France with this one,

so the frame size is much less crucial than it might be with a modern

road bike.

This machine has brand new Kenda tires and it has been cleaned,

lubricated and adjusted so it rides great and is ready for a new life as

a daily commuter or occasional bike path sweetheart.
